A tale of 2 Ratties:
Pupdate, Adoption announcement, and Special thanks to a special adopter!
In 2011 Melissa met Patch the Rat Terrier, an SDR senior and volunteer favorite, and he immediately stole her heart. Patch was in foster care for 3 years before Melissa welcomed him into her home. She quickly realized what a special little dog she had and her family was complete.
Sadly, tragedy struck recently and little Patch left for the rainbow bridge. Heartbroken, Melissa contacted SDR about her loss. "I can't believe how lucky I was to get Patch. He was the most amazing little angel and I loved him with all my heart. Patch had been doing really well and in fact he had a full vet visit (xray, ultrasound, and blood work) two months ago and everything was normal. At 3:00 am on November 19 Patch started breathing heavily and grabbed to take him to the ER. I got two blocks from home and he was gone. My vet thinks it might have been an embolism since he was perfectly fine. I am so sad and angry I don't have my sweet angel."
In contacting SDR about losing Patch, Melissa learned about Lucky another senior Rat Terrier currently in rescue at SDR and looking for a new foster home. It must have been fate because Melissa felt drawn to Lucky and decided to make him a permanent part of her family!
Melissa was in the process of adopting a Shepherd mix named Leonard when she found Lucky. The two seem like they will make a great pair, and on Friday Melissa's fur family became complete! Melissa writes, "Lucky is the best Christmas present ever! I think Patchy sent Lucky to me from heaven. And Lucky and Leonard are doing great!"
Thank you so much Melissa for taking such amazing care of Patch and opening your heart to 2 more homeless pups in tribute to the little One-Eyed Bootlegger 💚 Patch, you touched so many hearts and will be greatly missed 💔
